PKN Bangor Goes Virtual

PKN Bangor Vol. 24 – February 2020 – Bangor Arts Exchange

In 2020 Launchpad became the official organizer for PechaKucha Night Bangor and held our first successful live event at the Bangor Arts Exchange in February.  For those who are unfamiliar with PechaKucha, (Japanese for “chit chat”) is a 20×20 format presentation of your 20 chosen images, each for 20 seconds. In other words, you’ve got 400 seconds to tell your story, with visuals guiding the way. It is a controlled creative convergence – where creatives; architects, artists, musicians, performers, idea activists and designers meet to share their ideas and showcase their work in a unique, high-energy format. This creative outlet began as nighttime get-togethers in Tokyo in 2003 by two renowned architects. Since then, three million people have attended PechaKucha events worldwide. Communities across the world participate in PechaKucha and we’re honored to be part of this global community of Creatives.

In an effort to bring PKN Bangor to as wide an audience as possible during current gathering restrictions due to COVID, we are virtually presenting upcoming PKN Bangor events into 2021. They will be free to watch with an opportunity for pay-what-you-like donation from viewers!

So, you heard it here first: we’re announcing our next four event dates and topics, including two themed dates as well as two PechaKucha Nights in our classic format to choose from! We are currently seeking Presenters for all dates!

Save the Dates:

Thursday, December 10 – PechaKucha Night Bangor – Vol. 25 – “Skin Deep – Let’s Talk Tattoos”

Open submission deadline:  Friday, November 20

Of course we all know that a tattoo is a form of body modification where a design is made by inserting ink, dyes and pigments, either indelible or temporary, into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. The art of making tattoos is tattooing and this art form has a very prominent place in our society, and we want to hear about that from the artists themselves! Launchpad is seeking to gather a wide range of tattoo artists with varying styles and specialties from around the state of Maine to do a Pecha Kucha presentation focusing on their artist style, images of their work, why that is the style that called to them, what drives them to do this work, etc. Tell your story in 6 minutes and 40 seconds!

Thursday, March 11 – PechaKucha Night Bangor – Vol. 26 – Classic Format

Thursday, June 10 – PechaKucha Night Bangor – Vol. 27 – “Let’s Hear it for the Maker’s!”

Open submission deadline:  Friday, May 7

This year we’ve seen some pretty incredible Maker’s taking their craft to the next level, changing up their games and shifting into the Maker world for the first time in some cases.  We often hear the question “What is a maker” and to us that is an impossible question to answer. To me, Adam Savage( host of Mythbusters) said it best: “Humans do two things that make us unique from all other animals; we use tools and we tell stories. And when you make something, you’re doing both at once.

Whether you’re a maker for fun, one who took your craft online for the first time this year or someone who dabbles in sewing who answered the call for handmade masks this year these stories are endless, and we want to hear yours!
