Launchpad is partnering with the Downtown Bangor Partnership, building owners and other stakeholders to present the 2021 version of this ongoing public art project in Downtown Bangor. Since it’s beginning, the mural project has helped strengthen community identity, increase cultural awareness, improve the aesthetics of public spaces, and contributed to our local economy. COVID-19 has underscored the value of accessible, outdoor public art and its power to engage citizens even when we are unable to gather together. This project strengthens arts access in our community by the design and installation of a mural art in highly visible, walkable areas of downtown Bangor.
The theme for our 2021 project will be Unity, with artists challenged to create pieces that elicit conversation and inspiration around uniting and connecting our community. Artists are welcome to submit pieces outside of the theme for consideration as well. Over a dozen murals will be selected for installation at various locations across downtown. Selected artists will receive a small stipend for their work!
Artists may submit work in any format for consideration. Submissions are due by midnight on Friday, May 7, with final selections chosen by May 14, and an installation day of Saturday, May 22.
