06 Feb Launchpad partners with MAMM to bring Rock Camp to Bangor
Since 2007 the Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) has provided an excellent opportunity for young musicians of all skill levels, ages 11+, to play in a band, perform covers and write original music through its summer camps and year-round programs. Accomplished educators and members of local bands offer inside tips on self-promotion, booking, gigging, the history of rock and music theory. It’s week-long summer camps have been previously held in other communities across Maine such as Portland, Augusta and Machias, but breaking into the Bangor market had proven logistically difficult. Through a new collaboration with Launchpad, MAMM will be able to offer Summer Camps and Year-Round programs housed at the new Bangor Arts Exchange venue in Downtown Bangor.
Launchpad’s Executive Director, Meg Shorette, expressed excitement for the opportunities the camps will provide for local youth musicians. “This collaboration between Launchpad and MAMM has been one that both organizations have talked about for some time. The opportunity to provide music education to our community at a time when we’re often seeing funding for the arts and music in schools shrinking, not only serves our mission, but ensures the growth of future musicians developing within the Greater Bangor area.”
“MAMM is thrilled to be bringing our Rock Camp program to Bangor in partnership with Launchpad–an organization who has been doing a tremendous job of enriching Maine’s communities through the arts” echoed MAMM director and founder Jeff Shaw. “We are excited for the opportunity to work with Penobscot County’s youth at the beautiful new space at the Bangor Arts Exchange venue”.
All skill levels are welcome to participate in the camp and scholarships are available. For more information or to register, visit http://www.maineacademyofmodernmusic.org/camps/
